Did you know that mobile phones are proven to be seven times dirtier than toilet seats at home? That means every touch of your phones without you wiping sterilizers can get you nasty diseases amid a pandemic. Samsung, however, has a solution against this. A UV sterilizer and a 10W wireless charger in one device.

Can your chargers do this?

Since the Coronavirus strikes the world, everyone is eager to get cleaned and be sterilized to all their body parts. However, they didn't know that cellphones could bring the same deadlier diseases once it is not cleaned properly.

Samsung has a perfect solution to this problem. The popular South Korean mobile phone company has recently released a new device that can be used as a phone sterilizer and wireless charger in one.

On Tuesday, July 7, Samsung reveals their own UV sterilizer that boasted of killing 99% bacteria and germs in a phone within 10 minutes of charging.

"The UV Sterilizer effectively kills up to 99% of bacteria and germs, including E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, according to tests done by two independent test and certification institutes, Intertek and SGS. That's not all - we've designed it to fit a variety of device sizes so you can sterilize many of the products you use the most," said on the official press release.

Samsung's UV sterilizer has dual UV lights that protect both top and bottom of a phone. It also has this slick design that can be put inside a bag for easier access, or bring it anywhere-- just like a regular wireless charger.

For the charger purpose itself, the device is a 10W wireless charger. It has a single button to turn on the UV sterilizer and automatically turns off once 10 minutes is done.

"Now, you'll be able to quickly disinfect your smartphone, earbuds, and glasses, in just 10 minutes, wherever you are," Samsung said.

Selected countries already had Samsung's UV sterilizers, such as Germany, Singapore, Romania, and Hong Kong. The United States markets are not yet advised to have the same products, but it could be soon. German Samsung stores sell this device for almost $65.

Can UV sterilizers really help against COVID-19?

As Samsung releases a new UV sterilizer, people are now discussing whether UV sterilizers could wipe off coronavirus from your phones.

The National Academies of Sciences Engineering Medicine said via The Verge that UV light could probably erase viruses like SARS-CoV-2 off of our phones. However, evidence of its accuracy is not yet fully proven by experts. Hospitals also refuse to use ultra-violet light to disinfect people since this light may cause cancer and damages the eyes and skin of a person.
