The famous battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, or PUBG to its loyal fans, might be getting a new mode soon, but that is if it works well during the testing phase, which will determine whether it would officially make it in the live-games--but if anything's for sure, it's that the game is indeed collaborating with popular K-pop girl group BlackPink.
Is a New Arena Mode Coming?
According to a report by PCGamesN, PUBG might be getting a 64-player, squad-based Arena mode as the game's developer, PUBG Corp., has added it to their "Labs" testing ground, wherein players could try it for a limited time.
Based on the report, the developers wanted to combine "intense PUBG gunplay with an arena shooter's tactics."
So, how exactly will PUBG's Arena mode play out?
"Arena mode is a 64-person, squad-based match that drops you into one of several sectioned-off zones on Erangel, Miramar, or Sanhok," the official blog post for PUBG Labs said. "You'll fight it out with up to two other squads to claim victory in your arena."
If your squad loses, your team will then lose one of its three chances, getting completely eliminated from the mode once they're all gone.
However, if you win, you'll advance to the next round in a "stronger position" than your opponents who have lost.
If the match gets down to three squads or less, the game will turn to a sudden-death style mode, where any team could win despite how many chances they have left in an all-or-nothing round.
How to Test Arena Mode?
Moreover, the developers have also confirmed one key difference between PUBG's Arena mode and regular matches: it turns out weapons won't spawn here, meaning you'll have to use the in-game currency you earn to purchase better arsenal.
The in-game currency can be acquired by defeating enemies.
Another key difference is that knocked out teammates can spawn within five seconds only, which would be a real advantage if you have great teamwork and strategy.
Again, the Arena mode hasn't been added to the game yet, but PUBG players can test it out on PC starting Sept. 18 to 21, as well as from Sept. 25 to 28.
If you get the chance to test the Arena mode for the developers, they will need your feedback as it's a crucial part in helping them decide whether to add it to the game officially or if there is anything they need to improve.
PUBG x BLACKPINK
In related news, popular K-pop girl group BLACKPINK is collaborating with the battle royale title after days of teasing as both the group and the game have officially announced their partnership through their official social media accounts.
Nevertheless, there isn't really that much information on how exactly BLACKPINK will be joining the battle royale, but according to Hypebeast, they might be getting playable avatars as well as BLACKPINK-themed special items like their official lightstick hammer and a pink car.
As of writing, there hasn't been an exact date on when the new content is coming.
