A highly anticipated feature is coming out for the Chrome OS, the dark mode. Rumors have recently been spreading through the grapevine that the Chrome OS will actually be releasing an upcoming dark mode some time in the near future. Evidence of this particular "new feature" was reportedly spotted during the operating system's very own experimental Canary channel, according to an article by Tech Spot.

It is apparently still not prime-time ready as of the moment, but the general bleeding-edge users will still be able to experiment with this feature as long as they aren't too particular of the occasional bug during its development stage.

Dark mode technical problems

Android Police has recently reported this feature being a possibility as well as the anticipated dark mode grows more into the light of truth than a rumor. The evidence of the said new feature can be spotted when searching the Flags menus of the said Chrome's experimental Canary channel.

The recent reports, however, have shown that the feature is currently still unstable and it is still not clear when the feature will be released in a more stable state. The dark mode is a particular feature that the Chrome OS users have been requesting for quite a while as proven results show that it is beneficial on eye strain as well as its readability.

There are a number of users that also appreciate the new aesthetic look when switching up their own UI to a more modern version and a refreshing new look. This is a feature that the Windows and Mac users have both been enjoying for an array of other apps for quite a while.

Original source of the rumor and how to access the dark mode

The original rumor from Android Central previously pointed out that the dark mode were passed out some time last month and it seems that that rumor spread into a truth. However, with a few more technical issues as of the moment.

The rumor states that the feature is currently available for testing by simply heading over to the Flags menu. In order to do so, all that needs to be done is to copy and paste the following URL:

chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark

and

chrome://flags/#enable-webui-dark-mode

Although a number of people have reportedly noted that the feature does not work 100% of the time according to reports by The Verge. But for those dying to try out the cool new feature, it is available to try.

For those wanting to try, the feature is not 100% finalized so it is still expected to contain bugs here and there and not everything is going to run completely smoothly. There is still no date on the "fixed" version but users can only assume that the official announcement will be once all the bugs are fixed.
