Apple leaks show an FCC Filing that lists the iPhone 12 with a hidden feature that could soon "counter charge" accessories such as the AirPods through its built-in magnets known as the MagSafe. The idle wireless charger right at the back of Apple's latest release may soon help in charging accessories despite not carrying an extra power bank.

The world's most valuable multinational tech company, Apple, proves itself again for keeping its innovations and features a secret to the public despite the global launch of the iPhone 12 last October 13. The iPhone 12 is full of surprises with hidden features that still misses the public's knowledge and awareness.

Apple's FCC Listing: iPhone 12's MagSafe 'Counter Charging'

According to Mac Rumors, an Apple FCC Filing was initially discovered by Jeremy Horwitz from Venture Beat that states a "Wireless Power Transfer System" through magnets on the iPhone 12's behind. However, according to the listing, the feature would only accommodate one accessory to charge.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Filing confirms and shows that the iPhone 12 indeed has the feature that Apple put at its back. The magnets that support the MagSafe not only take in power but also give off charges, "transferring" energy from its batteries to Apple accessories.

The listing from the FCC positively confirms the hidden feature of the iPhone 12 but has not yet been activated by the Cupertino giant. Speculations primarily focus on the fact that the AirPods may not be compatible with the MagSafe charging capabilities; Apple would soon release the wireless earphones' MagSafe-specific version.

The tech company has not yet confirmed the Apple accessories compatible with the MagSafe "Wireless Power Transfer System" (WPT). Currently, the Apple Airpods supports the Qi wireless charging system that uses inductive methods to power devices. MagSafe's method may have resemblances to the Qi, but it is unsure whether the current AirPods could take power from the magnet.

Apple's AirPods may also be the sole accessory that could be charged with iPhone 12's MagSafe 'Counter Charging.' The FCC Filing confirms this and states explicitly that Apple would only debut one accessory intended for the "Wireless Power Transfer System." The AppleWatch is also known to use the magnet charger but would not be included in the new feature.

Apple's 'Wireless Power Transfer System' from the iPhone 12: How Much Power Can it Give?

The 2020 iPhone 12's WPT charging function can only release 360 kHz of power to charge the sole Apple accessory intended for it. The potential Apple accessory for the iPhone 12's MagSafe 'counter charger' would be new and see a future release.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman on Twitter (@markgurman), the closest accessory would be the AirPods. The Airpods would be the ideal and logical pair for the WPT system of the iPhone 12 because of its pairing and nature as a recommended accessory from Apple.
