Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the company's earnings call that the new Oculus Quest 2 got more than five times preorders than the original VR headset.

"I've been very impressed and excited by the progress that our teams have made on this," said Zuckerberg, according to The Verge. The CEO also shared he loves using the Quest 2, which he thinks "extraordinary." He also noted that he is "proud of the work that we've done there" as the company leaps forward on creating future computing platform.

Oculus Quest 2 has been receiving great reviews and sales since its release on October 13. Its price is cheaper as the 64 GB version is sold at $299 while the 256GB model costs $399, which is similar to the original price of the first version when it launched in 2019.

As the holiday season approaches, the sales of the VR headset will continue to surge. For those who have not yet pre-ordered the Oculus Quest 2, check out its specs below:

  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2
  • Resolution: 1832 x 1920 per eye
  • Refresh rate: 90 Hz
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 64GB / 256GB

Oculus Quest 2 is powered by a Snapdragon XR2 processor, which is a notch up from the priginal's Snapdragon 835. It will have 256GB built-in storage, 6GB of RAM, and 90Hz refresh rate. The VR headset is also 10% lighter with 1832 x 1920 resolution for each eye, which is 50% increase from the previous model.

Oculus Quest 2 third-party developers says game sales increase tenfold

The increasing demand for the headset may be due to the lower price and the enhanced specs. While Facebook has been so happy with surge in preorder sales, third-party game developers for the Oculus also benefit from Oculus Quest 2 launch as numerous VR developers are reporting surge in sales.

Since the launch, CEO of Cloudhead Games Denny Unger, developer of "Pistol Whip," said their game sales increased 10 times while Apex Construct's Fast Travel Games saw a sales boost of 800%.

In a tweet on October 17, Unger happily reported the huge sales boost of the rhythm shooter, which he noted as an "incredible sign for the VR industry."

Although developers did not provide the specific sales numbers, Pistol Whip has already generated revenues of more than $3 million on the original Quest. Aldin Dynamics CEO Hrafn Thorisson also said the sales of "Waltz" have increased tenfold while Developer Sergio Hidalgo also shared that VR horror game "Dreadhalls" also had an increasing sales.

Meanwhile, two Quest games from Fast Travel Games got 800% boost in sales for "Apex Construct" and "The Curious Tale Of The Stolen Pets" after the Oculus Quest 2 was launched.

Meanwhile, Oculus users can also avail the improved Oculus Touch controllers, which promise to provide more efficient tracking when fighting or climbing within the game as well as four times battery life.

Aside from the Oculus Touch, the Quest 2 also offers support for the Elite Strap with Battery to extend the endurance of the VR headset as well as the Fit Pack with interchangeable face covers and light blockers, which could fit different face sizes and shapes.
