Samsung has now officially unveiled the new Exynos 1080 SoC which is a premium mid-range chipset allowing the company to use the next generation of certain high-end smartphones. Samsung is said to also offer its brand new processors towards other OEMs. In fact, the known Exynos 1080 is said to make its debut directly inside the upcoming Vivo flagship scheduled early next year.

Samsung Exynos 1080 SoC: 25% smaller but 20% more powerful

Samsung had recently confirmed the existence of the rumored Exynos 1080 processor after there were several leaks and rumors regarding the said processor revealing the supposed specs surrounding the chip. The official spec sheet was then uploaded to androidheadlines which reported the story.

The known Exynos 1080 is said to be Samsung's very first processor that was fabricated directly on a known 5nm EUV-based FinFET process. This means that the chip should be very power-efficient as the known 5nm process is said to be able to shrink the chip by about 25% while also making it 20% even more powerful.

The performance of the CPU should also see quite a large improvement thanks to the brand new ARM Cortex-A78 big cores. The new octa-core chipset will also feature a certain triple cluster arrangement along with one of the Cortex-A78 cores functioning at 2.8GHz while the three other Cortex-A78 cores will be operating at a maximum frequency reaching 2.6GHz. This will all be topped with four different power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores that top up at exactly 2.0GHz.

During the recent announcement made during the event in Shanghai, China, just earlier today, Samsung has claimed that the upcoming Exynos 1080 would be able to offer users a whopping 50% jump in its single-core performance over the previous-generation processors. The multi-core performance, on the other hand, will most likely see a whole 100% jump.

Samsung Exynos 1080 SoC memory and performance boost

The upcoming chipset is said to also feature the very latest Mali-G78 MP10 GPU. Samsung has claimed that the brand new GPU will bring 130% performance boost over the previous Mali-G77 MP11 GPU that is already found inside the known Exynos 990. It is also said to support a whole 144Hz refresh rate functioning at Full HD+ resolution as well as a 90Hz refresh rate at a WQHD+ resolution.

The chips memory will support a LPDDR5/LPDDR4x RAM as well as a UFS 3.1 storage altogether. There will also be an integrated neural processing unit or NPU that is able to offer up to 5.7 TOPS or trillion operations per second in terms of performance. The known integrated 5G modem will support both the sub-6GHz and the mmWave networks all theoretically delivering a downlink speed of way up to 3.67Gbps as well as 5.1Gbps respectively.

Exynos 1080 supports 200MP cameras and video recording of HDR10+

The Exynos 1080 has an image signal processor or ISP able to handle six cameras holding a 200MP maximum. These include two 32MP cameras at the very same time. The chipset is also very capable of having 4k video recording as well as playback at a whopping 60fps. It is said to also support on-device HDR 10+ of powerful video editing, according to xda-developers.
