With the release of iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3, some users are looking for ways to jailbreak their phones so they can use third party apps that are not allowed on the device. But is it safe?

What is a jailbreak?

A jailbreak is a method to get escalated privileges on the iOS, and that lets you do numerous things that Apple would not want you to do, according to LifeWire.

You can download third-party apps that are not available on the App Store. If you are in the United States, there is a massive chance that you are tethered to a certain phone carrier like Verizon or AT&T when you use an iPhone.

A jailbroken iPhone will give you privileges to install apps that are not available through the App Store and you can start using that app like normal on your phone.

Why it is Not Safe

Rooting, jailbreaking or unlocking the phone means exploiting vulnerabilities in the unit's operating system. This allows users to install programs as it overcome all restrictions.

While this may sound good, it is not safe to jailbreak your device. Once you do it, it is no longer secure, making it easier for hackers to manipulate the software of your phone. Hence, instead of jaibreaking, it is better to check the phone's specs and feature first pior to purchasing it.

How Jailbreaking Works

To go through the process of jailbreaking your iOS 14.3, you will need a compatible iPad, iPhone or iPod touch that is running iOS 14.3 or iPadOS 14.3, as well as an Apple Mac computer that will enable you to download and to run the initial app that starts the whole process.

It is important to note that checkra1n 0.12.1 beta offers the support on the following: iOS 12.0-14.2, iOS/tvOS 14.2, Apple TV 4K breakout boards and the supported devices include iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and SE, iPad 5th generation, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPad Pro 1st generation, Apple TV 4 and 4K and iBridge T2.

The devices that are not supported by checkra1n at the moment are iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPad 6th and 7th generation, iPod touch 7, iPad Pro 2nd generation, iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X.

This works by downloading the latest version of a jailbreak tool on your Mac computer then run the app on the device. This should allow you to jailbreak iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 unofficially as the version of checkra1n that is current is not available yet.

Users also connect their device through a lighting cable while the jailbreaking app is still running during the whole connection process.

The device will then reboot a few more times during the whole process. Once it is ready, you can start using your device again.
