Tesla Model S 'Refresh' spotted

The Kilowatts' New Year sighting is actually the first publicized glimpse of a Model S on public roads showing off its wider body since Tesla teased about Plaid Model S during the Battery Day in September. The next-generation Tesla Model S set a record of 1:30.3 as it completed the Laguna Seca, beating Randy Pobst's McLaren P1 by almost seven seconds.

The blue Model S "Refresh" also comes with a chrome-deleted trim, which further confirms Tesla's providing a refreshed design for Tesla's Tri-motor Plaid Powertrain. The unique Model S was spotted with manufacturer plates on early afternoon of Jan. 1, near the intersection of Purissima and Arastradero Roads in Palo Alto, California.

The location is near Tesla headquarters, so it is not new to see Tesla prototype and alpha vehicles with its pathway serves as an unofficial testbed for Autopilot technologies and new vehicles.

While the photos provide limited view of the car's front fascia, it is not clear whether Tesla will significantly update the front bumper design like it did in 2016 when theit replaced the "nosecone." However, the Model S "Refresh" with matte black window trim, which further suggests that Tesla is likely to completely eliminate the chrome trim and upgrade its flagship SUV Model X in the future with revised headlights similar, new wheels, and "chrome delete.".

The Tesla Model S with Tri Motor Plaid powertrain is expected be available for delivery by late 2021 at $139.990 starting price. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds and can reach over 520 miles of range.

Tesla design 'Refresh' delayed

Aside from the recent sighting of the blue Model S sedan, rumors about the possibility of having a design refresh for Tesla Model S and Model X has again surfaced after a hacker finds a software update, which includes something about an updated interior and a selfie camera.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that adding the camera would prevent people from damaging the car when being driven under its self-driving robotaxi network.

Tesla hacker 'green' shared in Twitter that he spotted in the Tesla code a certain 'S/X P2,' which referenced it being equipped with the most advanced Autopilot hardware 3.2 and a selfie camera. The hacker usually finds new Tesla features by digging into the car's new software updates.

Also, the design refresh possibility has been increasing lately, particularly after Tesla recently announced that Model S Plaid will require few significant changes. Moreover, Tesla recently extended production shutdown of Model S and Model X until early January while the price and expected delivery time are increased for Europe orders for Tesla Model S and Model X in March.

Back in 2018, Tesla was reported to be doing a significant refresh on Model S and Model X's interior design, which was scheduled then for summer of 2019. However, according to Electrek, the design refresh was delayed after the car manufacturer focused on increasing the production of Model 3.
