BERLIN, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 19: A shopper ltries out the new Apple iPhone 6 at the Apple Store on the first day of sales of the new phone in Germany on September 19, 2014 in Berlin, Germany. Hundreds of people had waited in a line that went around the block through the night in order to be among the first people to buy the new smartphone, which comes in two versions: the Apple iPhone 6 and the somewhat larger Apple iPhone 6 Plus.

The information was confirmed by a third supply-chain report, stating that Apple will soon use Samsung's LTPO screens for the company's upcoming iPhone Pro models this year of 2021.

According to 9to5Mac, previous reports claimed that the iPhone manufacturer planned to take the OLED panels and used them in the Apple Watch Series 4 and 5. The company was also said to have planned to bring the OLED screens in its flagship iPhones this year of 2021.

As of the moment, all iPhone 12 models all have OLED screens. Reports stated that Apple is not planning to change the screen for iPhone 12 smartphones right now.

Apple to soon use Samsung's LTPO screens

Although Apple wants to remain using OLED screens, the company confirmed that it will soon use LTPO panels or low-temperature polycrystalline oxide. This technology allows variable refresh rates.

BERLIN, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 16: A visitor tries out an Apple iPhone 7 on the first day of sales of the new phone at the Berlin Apple store on September 16, 2016 in Berlin, Germany. The new phone comes in two sizes, one with a 4.7 inch display, the other with a 5.5 inch display.

The innovation could lead to two things. First, the refresh rate can be enhanced to boost the iPhone's responsiveness to the screen. Apple is currently doing this in its iPad Pro, using 120Hz refresh cycles under the marketing name ProMotion.

This feature is really beneficial, especially when people are using Apple Pencil. It also offers a smoother and faster game experience and internet surfing.

However, the last outcome is a very different one. The LTPO screens could also lead to a reduced refresh rate. This could happen when there's a little change in the device's display. But, it can still reduce power consumption. Apple is doing this on its Apple Watch Series 5, enabling the always-on display without a massive hit on battery life.

Will iPhone 13 also have the new display?

Apple still hasn't released the upcoming iPhone 13 yet. However, Gizmo China stated that the iPhone 13 Pro could also feature a 120Hz LTPO display. The upcoming smartphone is already making a huge noise even though it has only been two months since iPhone 12 was released in the market. Right now, Apple is preparing to load up at least the top two models of the next iPhone with a 120Hz OLED display.
