The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is among the most highly-anticipated yearly events in the tech industry where various tech companies showcase their new products that will go on sale soon or gears they are currently developing.

But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CES 2021 had gone virtual and some are fully embracing the platform, such as LG, who got the help of a virtual influencer to present their new gear.

Meet Reah Keem, Virtual DJ

According to Digital Trends, the company decided to get the help of a virtual musician and DJ, Reah Keem, to introduce their products during the company's online press conference this Monday, January 11, 2021.

The virtual influencer has around 6,000 followers on Instagram, according to The Verge, plus a SoundCloud page with only one song.

It might be an odd choice to use a virtual influencer, but since everything's going virtual, it's a cool way to have everyone curious and get their attention, which might play well in LG's favor.

Just like every virtual influencer that exists these days, the virtual DJ is often given a lifelike personality, so it comes with no surprise that Keem talked about traveling and how it's a "part of my life" and "inspiration."

But of course, the pandemic came and traveling was almost impossible.

LG's New Sanitizing Robot and Gram Laptop

Soon enough, the AI was talking about LG's new CLOi UV-C sanitizing robot that uses ultraviolet C (UV-C) light to neutralize germs and viruses.

People can use the wheel-based robot to sanitize high-touch areas in public places like hotels and restaurants, or even at home, just like the virtual musician, who says she would rather "chill in my studio and work on my videos."

For those who don't know, Keem seems to be living (virtually) in Seoul, South Korea.

Just as Keem says that she presents LG's latest Gram laptop that features a 16:10 aspect ratio display, a clean-cut design, and a hidden-hinge display that runs on Intel's 11th Gen Core processor and Xe graphics.

With that, Keem's screentime is over, handing the presentation over to Samsung executive Samuel Chang.

The Era of Virtual Influencers?

Virtual influencers are not new, but Reah Keem is rather on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to popularity, especially when comparing her to Miquela Sousa, otherwise known as Lil Miquela, a social media virtual influencer who currently has over 2.9 million followers on her Instagram page.

Nevertheless, Keem might have been created by LG for this purpose, with published a press release saying that LG "introduced" the virtual DJ, plus during her presentation with LG, people can see that LG put "virtual influencer designed by LG."

Regardless, it was definitely one of the highlights of CES 2021.

Although LG's presentation may not be everyone's cup of tea, it's definitely entertaining to see how the companies are coping with the virtual show, making sure their presentations can get the consumers' undivided attention to pitch their new gadgets to the public.
