The Oculus Quest 1 or 2 may make gaming and meeting with friends in VR an amazing experience, but users complain it may not be too family-friendly. This is because Oculus devices can only have a single Quest account per headset.

As Android Central reports, this means that if children want to play with the Ocular device, a secondary account with customized settings and parental controls in order to filter mature themes may not be possible. When you can keep watch of your kids all the time, this may not be a problem. But if you don't have the luxury to do so, Ocular's latest upgrade may be a relief.

Oculus' Multi-User Feature to 'Grow the VR community, Promote Apps, and Help Prevent Piracy'

Oculus has announced in a blog post yesterday that they will finally launch a multi-user account feature to enable multiple accounts to access a single headset. It will also launch App sharing, which enables users to share an app that users have purchased on the secondary account. According to the company, these are two of their "most requested features."

The blog writes, "Not only will this enable safe sharing, but game progress and achievements will be personalized and saved separately for each account." the company believes that this latest update can make VR a more optimal experience for their users.

"We anticipate that these features will help grow the VR community, promote your apps, and help prevent piracy. Additionally, unique accounts and effective sharing mechanisms increase household usage, driving better engagement for the developer long term.", they added.

As per the announcement, the primary account can set up to three "secondary" accounts in order to also enable App sharing on one Oculus device. The company notes that this is just an "experimental" stage. LAter on, they may assess to see if they need to add the number of accounts as necessary.

How to setup Multi-User and App Sharing Feature in Oculus Quest 2?

Starting February 13, 2021, all Ocular Quest devices will automatically have the App sharing feature in the settings. However, the Quest App sharing feature will not be compulsory, and you may opt not to.

In order to enable App sharing, Oculus instructs users that "the primary account holder and the secondary accounts must each log in to the shared device using their own Facebook accounts". Since Oculus is powered by Facebook, this new update requires primary and secondary users to set up their accounts using Facebook.

This also means that unfortunately, children below 13 years olds, who by default cannot have facebook, also cannot access multi-user features. They may continue playing using the primary account.

For some, it may be a difficult update as the Facebook integration may still mean accounts can purchase things and access many games and content. Thankfully, their first roll-out of these changes is just an experimental beta.

The company is yet to observe users' feedback, and hopefully will adjust the rules to make it truly family-friendly.
