According to Mac Rumors' latest report, the issue was first spotted by the Twitter user @never_released. It was immediately retweeted by other users to warn people who own the latest Apple M1 MacBook.

"People with an M1 mac, please run 'brew install smartmontools && sudo smartctl --all /dev/disk0' and report back (and what kind of usage you make of the machine, especially RAM)," said Hector Martin via his official Twitter account.

"I'm at <600GBW on my MBP, but I don't use it heavily," he added.

In the photo, it was revealed that the SSD issue in M1 MacBooks generates around 30,000,000 data units read, which is currently wasting around 18TB of the laptop's memory.

Is the current SSD issue that serious?

M1 MacBook's SSD and other flash memory on solid-state drives can only be written to a certain number of times before they become unstable. However, if the SSD exceeds its limit, there's a high chance it can longer reliably hold your laptop's data.
