Android TVs are open-sourced to various companies including Sony, TCL, HiSense, Phillips, Skyworth, and the like, using the operating system to provide a Smart Television feature that can navigate the web and run apps.

The operating system is one of the frontrunners in the Smart TV industry as it breathes a new life on display technology of different companies.

Android is still owned, developed, and managed by Google, and has various rights over the operating system despite licensing it to these companies.

Google has not exactly announced this to the public, but speculations on the latest release update for the Google TV application is that it could potentially be the new Universal Remote to control Android TVs.

According to Google Play Store's app listing for the Google TV App, it would soon integrate the foundation for a Universal Remote that could control Android TVs via WiFi and Bluetooth Connections.

Initially, this feature was dedicated to a separate application called Android TV App, which serves as the all-in-one stop for all Android TV needs, no matter the brand and make from where it hails from.

More importantly, the Android TV Remote Control App only uses wireless connections for easier integration and control for the Smart TV.

Moreover, the Universal Remote feature of the Google TV app is just speculations and a discovery made by 9 to 5 Google, which have dissected the update version 4.25 and found a direction pad for better navigation.

The report is not sure when this would release for the Google TV app, but it is known that it is already within the system and in the works.

While most people are not into Google TV App's services as much as Play Movies and TV app because of the massive competitors like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and others.

Giving a new purpose for the application might gain it recognition from users, and even increase its usage among the public to act as a dual purpose service.

The combination of the Subscription or Video-on-Demand features of Google Play Movies and TV, a.k.a. Google TV, may be ideal as it could soon debut the universal remote.

However, 9 to 5 Google notes that this may not come in the final version of the application, as much as the Peel app and Samsung Smart TV works to control displays.
