Steven Spielberg's 2002 movie, Minority Report, is being turned into a TV series for Fox.

In the movie, Tom Cruise starred as a policeman in the future, working in the "Pre-Crime" division. Pre-Crime was based around three "Precogs," individuals capable of seeing future events before they happened. When Cruise's character was marked by the Precogs as someone about to commit a crime, he had to go on the run to clear his name. The movie ended with the Pre-Crime division decommissioned and the Precogs allowed to live normal lives. It was based on a story by Philip K. Dick.

Unlike other recent film-to-TV shows that have started over their continuity (12 Monkeys) or reimagined their entire premise (Fargo), Fox's Minority Report will continue the film's story. Set 10 years after the events of the movie, the show will find one of the three Precogs teaming up with a new character, a female detective with a dark past.

At the moment, Fox has only greenlit a pilot, but should it get a series order. It will likely debut in the Fall of 2015.

Kevin Falls will serve as showrunner; his previous credits include Franklin & Bash, Journeyman, The West Wing and more. The pilot was written by Max Borenstein, who most recently wrote the script for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla.
