Tesla Semi, the company's electric semi-truck program, has already been delayed numerous times since it was first projected to be introduced in 2019.

It seemed things had changed during the past few years, and the Tesla Semi appeared closer to production than ever before.

Electrek even obtained a memo from Elon Musk sent to Tesla Semi employees last summer, which stated, "It's time to expand production." At the time, the timeline wasn't updated.

Tesla also indicated that it will begin manufacturing electric trucks by the end of the year, with some customers receiving deliveries by then.

But despite all these recent indications that Tesla could build a large number of electric semi-trucks this year, Musk suddenly changed the track on its timeline in a tweet.

Tesla's electric trucks were based on the new Tesla 4680 battery cells, unveiled on its 'Battery Day' in September, last year.

Of course, the CEO's comment is still vague enough that no specific Tesla electric trucks may be produced this year.  However, it appears that Musk has a more cautious outlook on the program than previous statements led to believe.

According to Teslarati, Tesla's updated Semi prototype was recently sighted with a full wind deflector system installed while conducting road tests near the Fremont Factory. Videos of the Tesla Semi reveal just how impressively silent it is when it is running.

With its wind deflector installed, the new Tesla Semi prototype had the appearance of a vehicle that would most likely go into production within the near future.

This was demonstrated in the Semi's updated design which included larger windows, new taillights, door handles, and a new arrangement of equipment at the back. These changes were first noticed in February when The Kilowatts tweeted pictures and videos of the updated Tesla Semi prototypes.

The semi-truck sighting was especially noteworthy because of its lack of noise. Footage taken near the all-electric Class 8 truck indicates that the truck made minimal noise as it passed by.

This was quite impressive given the vehicle's size, and locals living along its routes may be appreciative. Tesla Semi videos have shown that this type of vehicle can produce an audible, futuristic sound.

However, the majority of those cases involved the electric truck accelerating hard. If the Semi is traveling at a more deliberate speed, as is evident from Fremont's recent video, it should be able to operate extremely quietly.
