LG has officially announced that it would bid creating future smartphones farewell after the initial rumors and speculations that the company would soon cease production of handheld devices. Initially, LG was alongside AppleSony, and Samsung in the early iterations of the smartphone industry that broke ground for the different technology available today.  

LG Confirms Smartphone Business Shut Down

In the recent press release of the South Korean tech giant, LG is discontinuing and closing down its smartphone production division, along with the lined-up devices that would have released this 2021. The main device that would have been releasing this year, the LG Rollable, would not be seen by the public despite the positive reception during CES 2021. 

The South Korean consumer electronics company said that this is a "strategic exit" for the company, which would lead them to focus on its other products such as electric vehicle components, smart home solutions, and the like. Over the past years, this setup has been apparent among LG's lineup. The company's smartphone products have declined in the market.

Instead of a bitter farewell, LG said that it would be fruitful and beneficial for the company, especially as it could help distribute the company's resources to products that they thrive on and are known for. LG is known mostly for their Smart Home solutions such as smart TVs, Purifiers, Robot Assistants, Airconditioning, Artificial Intelligence, and the like.

LG's New Focus: 6G Technology, Other Products

LG was known to be the United States' "Most Green Eco-Friendly" company, and the recent news of the company's farewell to the smartphone industry would leave a huge dent in the market. Initially, the company has been declining in the smartphone business and has planned to pull out today, Apr. 5, which the company did. 

With its farewell to the smartphone industry, LG is looking forward to providing technology and innovations to different aspects of the consumer electronics world, which revolves on a lot of aspects other than phones. LG has divulged that it would now be looking into the next-generation cellular phone connection called the "6G" to be the evolved version of 5G.  

LG's Future in the Consumer Electronics Industry

The announcement from LG is ambitious and was already looking ahead, where the world will transition to the next-generation cellular network, despite the present only on the verge of transitioning from 4G to 5G. The South Korean would also focus on other of its strengths like smart home integration, along with helping Tesla with its electric vehicle needs, particularly its power cells.
