MeWe, the ad-free social media site hailed as a rival to Facebook, announces tech and entertainment visionary Jeffrey Edell as its new CEO.
Edell will be joining the company's Board of Directors. As he ascends to the CEO position, he effectively succeeds MeWe founder Mark Weinstein, whose new role is Chief Evangelist.
A Tech and Entertainment Leader to Boost MeWe
A statement from MeWe describes Edell as "an experienced private and public company leader in the tech and entertainment industries" who has previously held executive roles such as Chairman, CEO and similar roles at Intermix Media, the parent company of MySpace; Soundelux Entertainment Group/ Liberty Media; Cinedigm; and DIC Entertainment. Edell is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, better known as the Oscars, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (the Emmys), and the Producers Guild of America (PGA). He is also a Certified Public Accountant from KPMG.
With Jeffrey Edell onboard, with his long background in production and Hollywood entertainment entities, the ad-free Facebook rival finds him "perfectly suited" in the next stages of its growth.
"People worldwide are migrating from Facebook, Instagram, and other major platforms to MeWe because it is the social network that respects its members as customers to serve and delight, not data to share, target, or manipulate," Edell said in a company release. "MeWe has achieved remarkable growth with zero paid marketing or member acquisition costs. I am thrilled to lead the company as we position for rapid growth by expanding our marketing efforts and product offerings, bringing on the world's most compelling content creators, and growing our team to welcome millions of new members in the months ahead,"
Boasting "Authentic" Timeline Sharing
MeWe is gaining a growing user base thanks to its authentic and real-life sharing with friends, family, and contacts with a common interest. It offers a timeline-ordered personal newsfeed and access to both private and public groups - including fan pages for celebrities, artists, and influencers. All this content is accessible without advertisements, algorithms, or any form of amplified content interfering prevalent in other social media platforms.
With MeWe, members can freely join and create communities based on their shared interests - music, hiking, sports, gaming, entertainment, and more - and allow them to fully enjoy and inspire positive connections and uplifting social interaction like-minded individuals. The developers of the Facebook rival boasts full control of new food content for its users, instead of automated algorithms suggesting and deciding what content shows up.
Edell also draws on his deep connections to the entertainment industry to bolster the ranks of MeWe influencers and those already present such as comedy legends Cheech & Chong, platinum-selling artist Mario, model, and TV personality Crystal Hefner, top surfer Kelly Slater, and more.
Additionally, influencers get more on MeWe, with the platform allowing a 100% reach to their followers instead of other social media platforms where content creators only reach 5 percent, or less, because of reach-stifling algorithms.
Most importantly, MeWe attracts new users every day because of its "freemium" business model, changing the game for social media platforms. It also offers unique features such as dual-camera videos, in addition to other services such as time-limited content, voice messaging, cloud storage, and more.
