Every PC gamer who was already an avid fan back in the late 2000s would remember the meme: "Can it run Crysis?" Well, with the imminent release of Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, maybe we got a replacement for the Crysis meme already (sorry, Crysis Remastered).

GamesRadar reports that 4A Games is releasing Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition on May 6th, and it's more than ready to make your gaming PC beg for mercy. The game isn't a remaster, but more of a rework of the graphics engine to take advantage of ray tracing capable-graphics cards. It's going to be launched on all major distribution platforms: Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and Good Old Games.

Aside from that, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is actually free if you already own the original game on the aforementioned platforms, as stated by 4A Games. But while a lot of gamers can choose to get the Enhanced Edition, they'll need some serious hardware to run it.

How Much Power Do You Need?

Short answer: a lot.

But before we get to the system requirements to run Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, 4A Games left this one critical tidbit on the game's page: you cannot run this version with ray tracing off, as it is made exclusively to feature that technology.

Well, well. What this means is that if you have a NVIDIA GTX 10-series or AMD RX 5000 series card or older, forget about it. Don't even try running the game if you don't want your PC to die 10 million different ways.

Now that's out of the way, what kind of hardware do you need to run this?

PCGamer reports that to play with "normal" graphical settings (including ray tracing) at 1080p 45 FPS, you'll need at least an NVIDIA RTX 2060, 8GB of RAM, and a 4-core, 8-thread CPU. You can go for a modern Ryzen 3 or a 10th / 11th gen Intel Core i3, if you want something new. As for the recommended system requirements (1080p 60 FPS), you'll need an 8-core CPU at the minimum, coupled with 8GB of memory and an RTX 2070/RX 6700 XT.

But we're not in the "Make My Computer Cry" level yet. Do you want 1440p 60 FPS at high settings? Bust out an RTX 3070 or RX 6800 XT, and double your RAM to 16 GB. And here's the absolute max: to play at 4K 60 FPS with every graphics setting cranked up, you'll need to sell your soul for an RTX 3090.

Gamers with RT-capable GPUs will also be able to take advantage of NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), which will allow them to play around for a bit by mixing ray tracing and DLSS settings to achieve higher frame rates. AMD users, though? You're out of luck: 4A Games isn't adding support for Super Resolution at all.

If the world isn't undergoing a GPU shortage right now, what an experience Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition will be.

Can I Carry Over My Old Save?

Yes. 4A Games reiterated that Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition will accept save files from the original game for Steam, Epic Games and GOG. But there's a catch: you will lose all progress inside individual levels. And if you get the game from the Microsoft Store, you won't even be able to import saves at all.

Get ready to experience this thrilling, classic post-apocalyptic experience like never before.
