'Among Us' Will Hit PS4 and PS5 This Year With Crossplay and Multiplayer Features

The hit game of last year, "Among Us," is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this mid-2021, Sony announced during its State of Play presentation on Thursday, Apr. 29.

'Among Us' Coming to PS4 and PS5

Sony said that just like on other platforms, "Among Us" will support crossplay and online multiplayer so that gamers can play with their friends no matter what platform they are on.

However, PlayStation players will be the only ones who can get exclusive "Ratchet & Clank" themed cosmetics, which is a skin and hat to that allows them to dress up like Ratchet, plus an adorable little Clank as a pet.

"Among Us" took the world by storm last year on PC and mobile devices, eventually becoming last year's most-downloaded mobile game, but the game did not debut on gaming consoles until Nintendo Switch acquired it in December 2020.

Two days after, Microsoft announced that the game would be hitting Xbox consoles later in 2021, and now PlayStation will acquire the game too.

Moreover, Sony also showed off 16 minutes of stunning gameplay for the PS5-exclusive "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" during its event.

'Among Us' on Xbox Consoles

Studio Innersloth stated that the multiplayer game will become available for Xbox consoles this year. But if you are a subscriber to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service for PC, you can play "Among Us" now.

The announcement came right after Nintendo Switch got the rights for the hit game, according to USA Today.

The Xbox Wire reported that the game may be released alongside the new map coming to the game. The launch should be simultaneous across Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X systems.

The Xbox versions of "Among Us" did not suggest that there is a new version of the game that would have any distinctive features or any exclusive content.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game did not feature anything special as well, and since all versions of "Among Us" are compatible with each other, it is doubtful that the Xbox version of the popular title will be much different than the others.

The game should be fully updated and content compatible with other versions of "Among Us" at launch. Innersloth also took some extra steps to improve their account system in new updates.

What is 'Among Us?'

"Among Us" is an online multiplayer social deduction game that was developed and published by American game studio Innersloth. It was released on iOS and Android devices in June 2018 and on Windows in November 2018, featuring cross-platform play between these platforms.

The game was inspired by the party game Mafia, and the science fiction horror film "The Thing."

Since the release of its first map, The Skeld, other maps were added into the game, with the fourth map, "The Airship," that was released in March as the most recent.

The game takes place in a space-themed setting, in which players each take on one of two roles, most being Crewmates, and a predetermined number being Imposters.

The goal of the Crewmates is to identify the Imposters, eliminate them, and complete tasks around the map. The goal of the Imposters is to sabotage and kill the Crewmates before they complete all of their tasks.
