‘Among Us’ Servers Have Been Down! DDOS Attack?
(Photo : Screenshot From Innersloth Website) “Among Us” servers have been down for more than 24 hours already due to a recent DDOS attack.

Among Us players have massively grown for the popular indie social deduction game. As of the moment, the game jumped into the millions shortly after a certain giveaway on the official Epic Games Store. The game is currently very popular and typically boasts over 500,000 players during its busiest moments.

Among Us Jumpps In Players

The game, however, is only going to be free for just a limited amount of time and it reportedly made the number of impostors and crewmates online soar drastically, especially on the computer. According to the story by ScreenRant, Among Us was considered as one of the biggest games back in 2020 despite it originally being released back in 2018.

The sudden buzz and spike in interest could reportedly be attributed to the whole COVID-19 pandemic. Both streamers and players started searching for some new multiplayer experiences. This reportedly led them to Innersloth's now popular title.

Among Us Free Until June 3

The word reportedly started to spread and due to the cheap price point as well as cross-platform play, the game suddenly rose to popularity. The daily player count, ever since 2020, has dropped but is still overall quite impressive.

Among Us is currently a free game on Epic Games Store until this coming June 3 as part of the platform's Epic MEGA Sale. The Community Director for the title, Victoria Tran, posted a certain graph on Twitter which showcased the sudden spike in players.

Among Us PC Version

The graph technically only shows players of the game's PC version. The data also shows that there was typically a rise in Among Us players well over the weekend. After the game suddenly went free, there was reportedly a massive jump in players. The total player count reportedly almost quadrupled over the course of two days which saw the amount of players rise from 500,000 to well almost 2 million.

Tran, however, notes that there are also some outside factors that have affected this. The price drop actually coincided with the official Memorial Day weekend which is typically a long weekend for a number of Americans. There is also reportedly a possibility of players on different systems trying to use the computer version for the very first time.

Among Us Switch and Mobile Numbers

Some older players could have even returned due to the massive influx of other newcomers. It is now also worth repeating that this is actually exclusively about the PC version. There was no available data publicly regarding the numbers for the mobile version or the Switch version and their performance over the very same weekend.

Regardless of this, the sudden boost in players is now nothing but positive. With the additional players, this naturally means more revenue which is something that all companies strive for. Beyond that, however, it shows how, even after a year, Among Us still has a foothold in popular culture. It might not be as popular as it previously was a year before, and it is also unlikely that it will eventually reach that level once more.
