Epic Games has just announced that they will no longer be hosting any in-person LAN events until the 2nd quarter of 2022. Once a major center event for esports, the Epic Games events might have to wait a little longer until players can battle each other face to face.

Epic Games Announcement

According to a Tweet by ShiinBR, Epic Games will not be launching any in-person LAN events this year and even during the first quarter of next year. Last year, a number of events suddenly had to cancel and some last minute due to the coronavirus. It looks like even this year, companies are still struggling to launch in-person events.

LAN events are usually very exciting as players get to fight with each other in person with a live audience and basically the feel of a solid competition. At home, however, everything might be too relaxed and too ordinary that it feels far from an open arena. While most gamers might prefer the in-person events, sadly, those events will be held off until next year.

Epic Games In-Person LAN Events

When the coronavirus first came out, one of the largest industries or fields to be affected was events. Esports is well known for hosting a lot of events and it came as a shocker as one by one, companies had to announce that the biggest esports events in the world would have to be cancelled.

While Epic Games has given a timeline on when the upcoming LAN events are expected to roll out again, other companies have kept quiet and have not yet tackled this issue. While esports events still continue online as virtual events are being hosted every once in a while, physical events might take a while before they officially launch once again.

Initially, a lot of events were postponed until further notice then one by one, events started to either get cancelled or turn into digital events. Digital events are a good substitute to physical events but they might not be able to capture the grandeur of live events. Most companies, however, do not have much choice which means they either do a virtual event, cancel the event, or postpone them once again.

Epic Games, however, has still been doing well virtually despite the lack of physical events. One example of ways that physical events done online resulting in a memorable event is on one of Epic Games' most popular games ever, "Fortnite."
