A woman revealed the danger of attempting the dry scooping challenge on TikTok as she ended up suffering from a heart attack.

The 20-year-old, Briatney Portillo, also known on Instagram and TikTok as @brivtny, shared clips in which she warned the public against the viral challenge.

Woman Suffers Heart Attack Doing TikTok Challenge

Portillo said in one clip that people should not do what she did because it is dangerous. Portillo admitted that she is the type to try anything and everything that she sees without questioning it.

Dry scooping is the nickname given to the challenge. It means dumping dry pre-workout supplements or protein powders into one's mouth instead of diluting them with water and drinking it as instructed, according to Complex.

In the past few months, some people have taken to TikTok to document their experiences with the challenge, which health experts have warned could result in a problematically concentrated amount of caffeine being consumed in a fast manner.

In the other clips, Portillo expressed her frustration at accusing her of fabricating the heart attack story.

Portillo also revealed the specific powder she used for the TikTok challenge, naming it as a Redcon 1 Total War pre-workout supplement, and fielded questions about what symptoms inspired her to see a medical professional.

Portillo stated that the symptoms that she felt that made her go to the ER were when the pain in her chest went to the left side and her left arm went limp. She said that it was the moment that she knew it was not anxiety and a heart attack.

According to 7News, Portillo gave more insight on the experience, saying that she first started to feel tingly and itchy, but she found out that it was a typical side effect, and she proceeded to go ahead with her planned workout.

Portillo then felt a heaviness in her chest with slight pain, and she assumed at first that it was anxiety or panic attack. However, Portillo stated that she felt better after taking a shower and decided to head to work.

In the locker room of her place of employment, where Portillo works as a dancer, she started to feel hot, and she started to sweat profusely. Portillo then stated that the chest pain returned, and it was more intense than before.

The medical results from Portillo's hospital visit revealed that her troponin levels were at a higher rate than normal. She was then kept overnight by hospital staff, followed by a round of additional tests the following day.

Ultimately, the hospital concluded that Portillo had experienced an NSTEMI, which is a type of heart attack that usually does less damage to one's heart.

Dangerous TikTok Challenges

Portillo is one of the hundreds of people who suffered from the dangerous TikTok challenges that they did. On June 1, a teen from Oregon suffered severe burns on her face and body after she tried to do the viral Fire challenge.

In 2019, the dangerous Eye challenge circulated after it was claimed that it can change your eye color.

According to Mirror UK, the trend began with TikTok user Maliabroo. However, the challenge could cause flash blindness and damage the eyes.
