"Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora," an upcoming game set in the Avatar universe, will not be a video game remake of the blockbuster film.

The new update about the game, which was announced during E3 2021, came from Luigi Priore, vice president of Disney and Pixar Games, in an interview.

According to PC Gamer, Priore said that "gamers expect more now" and would prefer to play games with new stories that can be explored with new characters.

"The whole idea is to have it be part of the storyline of that giant franchise on Pandora, but it's not a 'play the movie' game," he said.

Priore also confirmed in the interview that the game will be an all new open world that will take place in another frontier in Pandora.

Avatar The Movie Recap

"Avatar" is an epic science fiction film that was written, directed, and produced by James Cameron that was released in 2009. The film's cast members include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez, and Stephen Lang.

The film's story revolves around the N'avi, the local tribe residing in a fictional place called Pandora, a habitable moon in the Alpha Centauri star system. Pandora is rich in a mineral called unobtanium, which humans on Earth are seeking to mine by colonizing Pandora.

In order to communicate with the Na'vi, the humans found a way to genetically engineer an avatar of the Na'vi by transferring the human consciousness to it.

"Avatar" went on to be the highest grossing film of all time. It stayed as such until it was eclipsed by "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019.
