Abu Dhabi starts to distribute highly effective facial COVID-19 scanners in malls and airports. For the results to come out, it would only take you less than five seconds of your time.

According to Bloomberg, the EDE technology has rolled out on Monday, June 28 in establishments like airports and malls where many people flock. The facial scanner was found out to be super effective after a trial involving 20,000 participants was conducted.

Like the previous technologies that are focused on detecting COVID-19 traces, the EDE scanner works the same but this time through the incorporation of electromagnetic waves. These are responsible for the alteration of the RNA particles in the virus. In just a few seconds, you will know if you are infected by the coronavirus or not.

On Sunday evening, June 27, the Department of Health (DoH) approved the roll-out of the facial scanners following the expansion plan of the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis, and Disasters Committee.

The health department assured that the latest health technology was effective in identifying infections among COVID-19 patients. Furthermore, if you have been detected to be coronavirus-infected, you will be instructed to undergo a PCR test within 24 hours and follow the health protocols.

The Impressions of Abu Dhabi Residents About the COVID-19 Scanner

In an interview with Dubai-based news outlet, Khaleej Times, multiple shoppers expressed satisfaction about the launch of EDE scanners around the location. After being introduced to the public, people can now be more confident to roam malls without being worried about the coronavirus scare.

As per the authorities, public health is their utmost concern that's why this technology has been scattered already on several establishments. According to Mayar Salti, a Caribbean expat in Abu Dhabi, the new scanner was "convenient and quick."

"I visited Al Wahda mall this morning and I was surprised when a security guard used the Covid-19 scanner on my face. This was new to me. He then showed me the negative result and allowed me to enter," the 40-year-old Salti said.

Another expat who was from Finland, Helen Zimmer said that she was "amazed" by the EDE scanner when she went to a mall in Al Wahda earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Rose Peteho, a Filipina expat, told the news outlet that when she came to the mall, she showed the Alhosn app to the guard. The latter said that he would use the facial scanner for the detection of COVID infection. She was thankful that she was negative with the virus.

EDE Scanner Lightens the Load for Security Guards

Besides the shoppers, the UAE newspaper shared that the new technology helped many security guards in scanning the people who go to the mall. The whole process only takes less than five seconds.

One security guard said that there was a big difference between the facial scanner and the Green Pass. Unlike the latter, the EDE technology will not make use of any more of any apps on your phone. Simply, it will scan your face and immediately post the results.

The Green Pass has been utilized previously by the security guards to separate the infected from the uninfected persons. To use it, you must have a green pass on your Alhosn app when going to public buildings.
