HONG KONG, CHINA - 2021/05/24: A couple walks past the American multinational technology company Apple and IPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro smartphone commercial outside the store in Hong Kong.

As Apple remained mum about its smartphone coming this 2021, rumors have suggested two monikers for the next flagship: iPhone 13 and iPhone 12s.

One reason to skip the former lies with the stigma associated with the number. So, some are raising that the Cupertino giant is instead using its "S" name to avoid the infamous "13."

iPhone 13: Apple to Skip 'iPhone 12S'

Forbes reported that the "iPhone 12S" moniker is a complete rumor. A source from the supply chain of the phone maker claimed that we are getting an iPhone 13 instead.

The next Apple phone is called by most people "iPhone 13," as it provides consistency to the naming method of the Cupertino giant.

Screenrant further added that the said moniker helps people identify the upcoming device as the successor of the current iPhone 12, noting that it is the expected route for it after all.

iPhone 13: Apple's Complete List of Smartphones

To be precise, the source also bared the complete list of Apple smartphones that are yet to be released. It turns out that the company is launching these devices: a 6.7 inches "iPhone 13 Pro Max," 6.1 inches "iPhone 13 Pro," "iPhone 13," and 5.4 inches "iPhone 13 Mini."

Additionally, Forbes reported that the upcoming smartphone line-up will start shipping in the third quarter of 2021. The set of phones disclosed by the source echoed the previous reports of the iPhone 13 series.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 13 Pro is reportedly flaunting the darkest black that any smartphone has ever seen with its rumored stainless steel coating.

iPhone 13 Name: Pros and Cons

The number 13 in the iPhone moniker is rightfully consistent with Apple's smartphone line-up. However, it has been surrounded by the stigma that people will opt to skip the new product due to its name that brings unlucky vibes.

So, if that prediction realizes, the sales of the iPhone 13 will suffer.

Another Forbes report further suggested that the features of the next flagship, which is expected to experience some downgrades, only suits the "S" name.

iPhone 14: 120Hz Promotion?

According to MacRumors, the Cupertino giant will start flaunting its ProMotion display tech that introduces the 120Hz refresh rate on all of its smartphones in 2022.

The essential refresh rate is rumored to debut in the iPhone 13 release this year. However, not all of the models are reportedly sporting the new technology.

Additionally, leaks have been flooding that the next smartphone will be carrying a Samsung LTPO OLED screen.
