Apple's MagSafe iPhone 12 battery pack recently debuted for $99 via its website, and it is the official accessory that is available for the latest smartphone device of the company. MagSafe and the iPhone 12 have had an iconic history because it is one of the first accessories to buy for the device, especially as the company did not ship USB wall adapters in the device's box.

That being said, people are no longer fond of wires, and the traditional "power banks" that feature a USB wired connection are not what they prefer, especially when out and about. That being said, wireless charging power banks or unofficial MagSafe portable power packs were a thing since the iPhone 12's release.

Apple recently made the MagSafe iPhone Battery Pack online on its Apple Store, and what is great about it is that the device sticks at the back of one's device and can be used on the go. Sometimes, users bring a power bank but forget the wire for it, and this is a hassle for most people, as they can only charge it with a wire.

It packs a 1,460 mAh capacity which can fully charge an iPhone 12 Mini, but may not be enough to fully replenish the battery of an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and certainly, the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Nothing was revealed by Apple as of this moment, and several of its specifications came from 9 to 5 Mac, as they have received the actual products.

The device is currently available for pre-order via the Apple Store's online platforms, and it noted there that it would not yet be available for pickup or sale on physical stores. Additionally, Apple would ship out the MagSafe Battery Pack by July 19 for all those that have ordered.

How Does it Work? Better than Power Banks?

It works as if it is the regular MagSafe charging cable, only that it does not need to be plugged in a wall adapter every time it is used. As a battery pack, it holds a charge that is enough to almost fully charge an iPhone 12, which may be something that Apple intended as it does not recommend charging past the ideal 80 percent as per its Battery Health optimization.

It was said that the MagSafe Battery Pack can charge the device at 5W of power, which is sufficient to charge an iPhone but is not that much of a fast-charging capability. It does support 20W of fast charging, but that is when charging the battery pack itself, via a Lightning cable to replenish the power pack.

Is it Worth the Extra $99?

It is worth the extra $99 if users do not have any charging accessories for their respective iPhone 11's and iPhone 12's. However, if one already has a MagSafe specific charging pack (from unofficial stores that is), then it may be something to think twice of, as it would provide the same service or function.
