According to Tom's Guide, the first thing that you should do is to check if your Mac still supports that latest version of macOS.
It should at least be an iMac in late-2015, a Mac Pro in late-2013, an iMac Pro in 2017, a MacBook in early 2016, a MacBook Pro in early 2015, a MacBook Air in early 2015, and a Mac mini in late 2014.
Upon checking, here's how to download macOS Monterey:
- Go to System Preferences.
- Select Software Update.
- Then, click "Upgrade Now."
After which, wait until the software finishes downloading to install the macOS Monterey.
