"Dune" has been around since the early 1990s but as a video game instead of a television show or blockbuster movie that was produced by Hollywood. The game has not had that much success during its early releases, where it had a total of five titles that it has debuted from 1992 to 2001, focusing on the novel written by Frank Herbert.

LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 18: Timothée Chalamet attends the UK Special Screening of "Dune" at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on October 18, 2021 in London, England.

The popular sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert has been made into a video game series, especially during the late 20th century that focused on what the game is about. However, these titles from Cryo Interactive and Westwood Studios have focused more on a strategy-building title, instead of an action-adventure RPG.

Only the 2001 release of "Frank Herbert's Dune" by Cryo Interactive has focused on a three-dimensional experience that takes on the perspective of the popular characters in the title. These titles have not reached massive popularity among the gaming industry and have only seen a small niche of interest.

'Dune' Video Game Remake: Plans?

However, the blockbuster movie success that stars Timothée Chamalet and Rebecca Ferguson may be a spark to restart the fandom over "Dune." According to Cracked, the "Dune" video game series needs another chance to shine in the gaming industry, covering other aspects of the novel series that the film has missed out on.

Moreover, now is the time to make a remake for the game, especially with its success in the box office worldwide. The title explores heavily the novel's lore, and it would bring a new perspective on the "Dune" franchise with the game.

'Dune's' Influence in the Pop Media

"Dune" is a classic science fiction novel that was written by Frank Herbert in 1965, having an extensive series of the same title that focuses on religion, politics, environmentalism, warring nobles, and its sandworms. The games of "Dune" have focused on the different aspects of the novel, having its sci-fi translated into the pop media.

However, after its stint in the early 2000s video game scene, it has not seen any follow-ups with regards to the game. The title known as "Star Citizen" has been the closest thing there is to "Dune's" video game in the modern format, something that has the similar look to what the game and sci-fi novel is about.

The success of the 2021 "Dune" movie focused on the first story that introduced Paul Atreides and the background of the war against the Fremen and Imperium. The film may focus on the different books by Herbert, but its existence in video games may extend more of the novel's world, further exploring the lore and story of the game, hence the cry for its remake.
