Tom Read is the current Chief Executive Officer of the Government Digital Services, which he first took up the role in February 2021.
However, Read had a fruitful career in the government before joining GDS. His roots take him back to the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), where he was Chief Digital and Information Officer.
Read's career in the MOJ is also massive proof of his services and profession. Here, he spearheaded reforms to modernize technology used across prisons. The progressive focus of his programs also looked into legal aids for those that need them most.
Read was a known digital technologist before his stint with the government.
Before his MOJ career, he served as the Head of Applications at the Guardian Media Group from 2008. After that, the GDS CEO joined HMG as Cabinet Office Chief Technology Officer in 2013.
