Jun Matsuda from Sydney shops for his new Apple Watch Series 6 at the Apple Store in George Street on September 18, 2020 in Sydney, Australia. Customers to the Apple stores in Australia are among some of the first in the world to be able to view Apple's newest products. The new Apple Watch Series 6 features a blood oxygen sensor and app, while a new iPad (8th generation) has also been released.

Although the Apple Watch has gone through numerous iterations as of now, introducing tons of new features on its own, it still needs your iPhone for its initial setup.

However, it is worth noting that its requirement for an iPhone while setting up an Apple Watch makes the long process a little bit shorter, not to mention easier.

How to Set Up an Apple Watch

That said, without any further ado, here's how to set up the new Apple Watch that you've got in your hands before you place it and flaunt it on your wrists.

  • Turn on your Apple Watch.

To do so, just press and hold the side button on the smart wearable until the logo of the tech giant shows up, as per Apple Insider.

  • Then, place the watch near your iPhone.

Once the Apple Watch has been turned on, the next thing to do is to make sure that it is near your iPhone until your smartphone recognizes it.

By then, it should show an image of the Apple Watch, along with a "Continue" button.

  • Position your iPhone on top of the Apple Watch.

Make sure that your iPhone will be over your new Apple Watch to go on with the pairing process.

The wearable should display an animation on its small screen while your smartphone is facing it to pair the two devices together.

That should finish the setup process that involves the iPhone. However, the Apple Watch is still far from completing the initial process of setting it up.

Nevertheless, the next steps are tons of stuff like terms and conditions, backups, and passcode settings. And that's it, your Watch should be ready for use.
