Ever since the news broke out regarding privacy and Elon Musk tweeting the app, Signal has blown off in userbase. Although a lot of people started using Signal, there were a lot of features lacking compared to its competitors, but now, the app is now trying to add Stories to its features.

Signal to Add Popular Snapchat-Original Feature, Stories

According to the story by XDA-developers, code was spotted hinting that the security app will be adding new features like Stories. To add, the original platform that introduced the concept of Stories was Snapchat.

Stories was a limiting feature but gained popularity as it allowed users to share photos or videos for just 24 hours. After the timeframe, the stories would then disappear.

Instagram Took Stories and Added to Its Feature

On the other hand, Instagram took a different approach to Stories, and although they did follow the disappearing in 24 hours format, they added another layer to stories. Instagram allowed users to store stories even after they disappeared on the users' profiles.

Going back, the feature became a popular feat of Snapchat users and even helped with the platform's growth after its initial introduction back in 2013. In addition, the success of Snapchat Stories has even led to a number of other copycats.

Twitter Also Tried Out the Story Feature

One of the most popular copycats, as mentioned earlier, is Instagram which adopted the same feature under the same name. Aside from Instagram, WhatsApp decided to add the Status feature, which still functioned similarly to stories.

Twitter is another platform that tried out the feature by briefly launching its own repackaged version called Snapchat Stories, known as Fleets. With that, one of the most popular privacy-focused messaging apps, Signal, could be the next platform to add the popular story feature.

APK Shows Potential Signal 'Stories' Feature

The article by XDA-developers spotted the latest APK of Signal showing strings that were related to a story feature. From what the article gathered, the upcoming story feature by Signal would be similar to Instagram and Snapchat Stories.

The publication notes that users will be able to pick out two different story types, namely a private story or a group story. The article unfolds that the group story can be sent to any of the user's existing groups.

Reactions to the New Signal Feature

A private story,on the other hand, will only be limited to the people that the one posting chooses. This is quite similar to Instagram's "close friends" option.

Comments regarding the new feature are still being collected, but one account on Twitter replied to XDA-developer's tweet with a long "Nooooooooooooooooooooooo no no no" reaction. As of the moment, it is still unknown whether the privacy-focused users will be happy with the new feature.
