Despite Mark Zuckerberg's dedication to the metaverse ever since he changed the name of Facebook to Meta in October of last year, the former president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, thinks that the company will not succeed.

Former Nintendo of America President Shares Thoughts on Fortnite and Roblox

In an interview during the SXSW 2022 in Austin Texas, the former Nintendo America president shared his questions regarding the "current definition" of the company's platform, according to a report by Bloomberg. In addition, Fils-Aime also shared his belief in companies like Epic Games and Roblox.

Per Fils-Aime, Epic Games and Roblox are already molding the type of future that Meta wants to accomplish. This is especially seen in certain games like "Fortnite."

Fils-Aime Says Facebook is Trying to Accomplish the Metaverse Through 'Uncreative Means'

Fils-Aime says that Facebook, on the other hand, is trying to accomplish the metaverse through "uncreative means," according to the story by SlashGear.

Fils-Aime went on to say that Facebook is not an "innovative company." Although they bought companies like Oculus and Instagram, he does not think their current definition will become a success.

According to the former Nintendo of America president, Meta has not been an innovative company aside from its original social platform, which was initially created a number of years ago.

He also said that he thinks that the main problem of Facebook is their concept of the metaverse as well as its "tendency to please advertisers."

98% of Meta's Revenue Came from Digital Advertising

Most of the revenue that Meta made in the previous year actually came from digital advertising. To be exact, 98% of Meta's revenue came from digital advertising. Critics have noted that this is due to the company's tendency of placing ad revenue as a priority over its users.

Fils-Aime makes the distinction that the current ideas by Facebook are "anything but innovative," according to the article by SlashGear. He stated that in order to be innovative, the company would have to prioritize its own customers more as well as bring in new ideas to the table.

Fils-Aime Expresses Admiration for 'Fortinite'

Fils-Aime noted that a number of aspects coming from the metaverse have started to pop up already. With that, he also expressed appreciation for Epic Games bringing "Fortine" to life over the last four years.

Aside from just the game, "Fortnite" was also able to bring artists like Ariana Grande and Travis Scott through virtual concerts. To top everything off, the game even had movie nights where certain films like "The Dark Knight" and "Tenet" were played within the game.

The statement of Nintendo of America's former president also coincides with the statement of Shuntaro Furukawa, the current Nintendo president.

According to Furukawa, despite Nintendo's interests when it comes to the metaverse, he acknowledged the difficulties of the space.

Specifically, Furukawa acknowledged that it is hard to pinpoint what type of surprises and enjoyment should be offered to customers should they have a metaverse of their own.
