Netflix is cracking down on Password Sharing antics used by its subscribers to share the subscription to friends and family members who utilize the account. One account for multiple devices and passwords is a big no to the entertainment giant, and it will require extra fees for additional logins, now under beta testing in South American countries.

Netflix's Terms of Use said that Password Sharing is not something the company will tolerate, especially for other people outside the family circle or household. Paying to Share Netflix is now looking at a beta testing phase on Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru, all three being countries in South America.

The "add an extra member" will cost users as much as $2.99 for the feature.

The prices are different for each country, but speculators say that it would most likely be the price once it launches the feature in the United States.

Netflix's Beta Test focuses on giving users an option to "add an extra member" or "transfer" their account to a new one, focusing more on new integrations for the app.

Netflix: Password Sharing is Unacceptable, New Fees

Netflix wants you to pay extra fees for one's subscription when sharing the password with other people, mainly if it detects that the account is under use in a different place. The company said that users outside the household would soon be seen as additional users or profiles, and a prompt to pay for their extension would appear.

The extension would then give them a different profile, and it will feature the streaming platform's capabilities to work for the user that logged it in on the new device. Essentially, users will still have the same subscription, only that it would focus on extending its provisions and use for other users that the system would detect.

Netflix and the Password Sharing Dispute

Last year, Netflix launched a feature that focused on giving the public a warning to avoid password sharting, and instead of logging them out, the company brought pop-up windows. The message says "Get Your Own Netflix," and it would disrupt the viewing experience of the platform, prompting users to focus on getting their new subscription.

However, it would highly affect couples who do not live together yet and family members who are away from each other due to work or university.

There are no workarounds regarding this feature, and it would target users that have different networks, names, or information on their devices but use a single Netflix account. Netflix is serious about cracking down on Password Sharing users, especially those that entered into a subscription with friends and utilized it on their separate devices.

The company said that its ventures and revenue would not increase with users that share passwords, but not everyone are heavy users of the platform and uses it rarely, only for casual viewing. Nevertheless, Netflix is firm that each person should have their subscription and that password sharing will require extra fees if opting for that setup.
