YouTube channel Veritasium features Dr. Derek Muller, who has been teaching millions of his subscribers some of the most misunderstood science concepts out there.

Although YouTube is typically used to watch entertainment videos like vlogs, as well as music and gaming content, the streaming platform also houses tons of informative stuff.

Some of us might have gone straight to YouTube when we were still a beginner at something. The video-sharing site is home to countless video content covering almost all niche topics that might be new to us.

As such, YouTube has been a go-to platform for some amateurs and enthusiasts.

Veritasium's Dr. Derek Muller

For instance, the channel by YouTuber Dr. Derek Muller, Veritasium, teaches online folks about some complex scientific ideas.

According to an article by the Eton College School News, Muller, who is behind the science YouTube channel has a Ph.D. in Physics Education Research at the University of Sydney. He flaunts a degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Canada.

Muller said that when he started his doctorate studies way back in 2004, YouTube was not yet a thing like it is nowadays.

However, since then, the science communicator and filmmaker said that as YouTube has been expanding its reach through the years, the idea of joining the platform has appealed to him even more.

Muller said that he liked the video-sharing platform as it gave him to control "on his own destiny," adding that YouTube, unlike massive media outlets, is more "meritocratic."

At first, when he was still deciding what to show on his channel, he wanted to create videos for those who are not familiar with most concepts in the world of sciences.

But it turns out that these folks who have no idea of the various scientific concepts do not actually bother to watch such content on YouTube. On the other hand, those familiar with it already were no longer interested in it.

Muller eventually decided that it would be best if he would specifically focus on science concepts that are popularly misunderstood by countless people.

The YouTube channel of Dr. Derek Muller that goes by the name Veritasium has already amassed more than 11 million subscribers as of writing.

On top of that, it has received nearly a billion views already, according to the website of Veritasium.
