While only detailed in mere shadow and contours, Ferrari has put forth official photos of its forthcoming 2023 SUV, coined the Ferrari Purosangue. The Italian automaker posted all but one photo on its Instagram come Wednesday, March 23, stylized in an all-too-familiar red-hued background with two high-class LEDs as headlights and the unforgettable black prancing horse logo on it the front of the hood.

"You've heard the rumors...and we're delighted to confirm they're true (some of them). All will be revealed later this year. #Ferrari," the Instagram post reads.

Ferrari references previous leaks made public in late February, showcasing the Purosangue SUV on its assembly line. At the outset, many were still skeptical, as Ferrari isn't known to push beyond its already existing lineup of coupes and F1 racers, but now the cat is officially out of the bag. For reference, Purosangue will mark Ferrari's tallest vehicle yet and prove to be an interesting new variation to the company's world-renowned engineering.

Unfortunately, Ferrari adds no additional information about the upcoming automobile, but it's clear that the company is attempting to expand into a new and varied market. Purosangue, as one may guess, roughly translates to "pure blood" or "thoroughbred" from its original Italian. The SUV itself, though barely noticeable, boasts a grille-less front end with two large square intakes below its intense dual LED headlights.

However, the aforementioned leaked photos initially released via Car and Driver highlight even more of the interesting design choices and internals Ferrari has utilized for its first-ever sports utility offering. Much of Ferrari's long history finds its home within the body of the Purosangue SUV, as seen in its 296 GTB-styled rear ends that feature quad exhaust pipes and integrated vents and the front end's SF90 inspiration.

While there is as of yet zero official powertrain information and specifications, deductions can be made not merely from the leaked photos but also prior Ferrari makes and models. The Purosangue will most likely feature several variants, thus making the range of Ferrari's sports utility concept more approachable for all drivers.

A potential form factor as a starting line for the Ferrari Purosangue could see it powered via a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 alongside an electric motor. Several concepts have been put forth touting a 6.5-liter V12 engine with the potential to hit 819 hp. Ferrari could also take the SUV in a different route by giving it a hybrid twin-turbo V8 for a bit more punch at around 1,000 hp. However, it's still unclear if the Italian automaker will even decide on going electric for the Purosangue.

Ferrari's new bold move comes on the heels of several SUVs made by seemingly unlikely culprits, like Aston Martin's DBX707 and the flashy Urus by Lamborghini. Clearly, mass production on the Purosangue has already begun, but with deliveries still slated for a 2023 start date, potential buyers will have to wait before jumping on the Ferrari SUV train.
