Reddit is thinking of adding more video content-related features on the platform where people could leave "reactions" on the post or a clip.

While Reddit is still weighing the option to introduce many video content in the platform, the firm has not yet started its beta test. So far, we only know that this could be comparable to TikTok's video feature where the users could leave their reactions to the uploaded media.

The popularity of the videos on several sites has been on a wide scale. TechCrunch reported on Friday, March 25 that many users have gotten used to Duets and Stitches on TikTok. Since then, many people want to incorporate it into other apps.

Indeed, TikTok competitors are there to emulate what it started since we could see that Snapchat and Instagram launched Spotlight and Reels, respectively.

Regarding Reddit's experiment to add video content, it aims to reach out to more people in various discussions rather than competing with other social media websites.

The platform treats this as a huge advantage given that curious people want to learn more through discussion threads of varying topics. To be specific, Reddit might want to add a new flavor to the conversations among people.

More importantly, subreddits or the specific Reddit communities will benefit a lot from this video feature. It would be good if the platform will roll out an early testing phase to select subreddits to know if this would be impactful to the Redditors.

"In line with our work to help people engage in the topics that matter to them through social audio, video, text, memes, and more, we're in the process of reaching out to a few Reddit communities to see if a new video feature we're working on is something they find useful and fun," a Reddit spokesperson told TechCrunch.

The company representative added that an "initial test" for this feature is on the way, following the feedback that they received from select users.

Reddit 'Reactions' Feature

It should be noted that iOS developer Steve Moser is the first one to discover Reddit's "reactions" feature in line with the video content. Aside from the typical emojis, users could potentially utilize tools during the tests. There are also additional stickers or filters to enhance the usability of the feature.

Reddit first hinted its interest in this feature after its successful acquisition of Dubsmash, a tight competitor of TikTok back in the days. Following this report, the platform moved to explore bringing voiceovers, camera features, and more.

Back in the summer, the social news aggregation experimented with an iOS capability similar to the TikTok video feed. With that, users can do a lot of things on the content including leaving an upvote or downvote, as well as awarding the original poster.

In other news, Reddit took action in two forums that promote hate speech and misinformation, TIME reported.
