Google appears to be currently developing a feature that can protect Android users from AirTag stalkers.

Although AirTags are good tools used in finding lost objects, it can be a double-edged technology that might put the user in danger when misused and abused.

Google might be working on bringing an anti-AirTag stalking feature for Android users.

9to5Google initially reported that the Android platform might soon integrate an AirTag scanning feature that is similar to Apple's "Tracker Detect" released in late 2021.

For those unfamiliar, this feature can allow Android users to search for the nearby AirTags around the area. Earlier this month, Tile followed the Cupertino giant's footsteps by releasing a protective feature against AirTag misuse.

Apparently, the tech site noticed that Google is now taking steps to create a suitable anti-tracking tool intended for Android users.

It was seen that version 22.12.13 of Google Play References hints at bringing "Unfamiliar Tag Detected Notification" and "Unfamiliar Device Alerts" bearing two strings as seen below:

  • Unfamiliar device alerts
  • Unfamiliar Tag Detected Notification

Apart from this discovery, there are three additional types of tags that are mentioned in the report with string names:

  • ATag
  • Finder tag
  • Tile tag

Is it Enough to Protect Android Users?

As The Next Web writes in its recent article, the new protective features can foster a safer environment for Android users. They might be arriving on the settings menu, particularly in the "safety and emergency."

As of press time, Google has not yet announced its official public release.

As for the AirTags, these tools are changing the landscape of stuff searching for people. Besides that they are convenient to use, they are also affordable to the users.

Apple indeed created a memorable brand for the AirTags, but it's quite worrisome because some people tend to use it maliciously. With that, the iPhone maker has previously issued a warning to the AirTag users regarding the risk of being stalked by a stranger or someone that they barely know.

As such, this feature is what lacks in Android. In this way, Google is stepping up to shield the users against the potential incidents of stalking. It's also an important tool for every user so they could assure a stalker-free and safer platform.

To improve its reach, the search engine giant might want to collaborate with other tech companies to strengthen the security and privacy measures of Android users.

Just remember that smartly using technology is the ideal way that you need to follow. However, don't let your guard down since some incidents have turned disastrous for others like in the case of thieves using Apple AirTag to steal cars and a stranger spying on a woman using a similar tracker, per Tech Times.
