When a virtual private network app is activated, Netflix users will likely receive this message: "Whoops, something went wrong. Streaming error. You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again."

Now, two things can be behind this issue. Netflix is showing this error message when it detects an active VPN. Second, the streaming service blocked the residential IP address registered on your account.

Because of this, using VPN is not advisable when watching Netflix. But, there are still some tricks you can do to prevent the annoying M7111-5059 error code, such as the following:

  • Deleting cookies and clearing cache is quite handy. If there are now cookies and browser cache, Netflix will not have any user-identifier to match with your IP address.
  • Another trick is to avoid connecting to the default city. Simply close your VPN and check what city it automatically connects to. After identifying the city, find other large or medium cities you can connect to.
  • Switching to VPN protocol options can also fix the M7111-5059 error message. Various VPNs offer different kinds of encryption protocol choices. You need to open the OpenVPN tab to see more options. After that, just choose from the provided encryption protocols.

What Netflix Says About Using VPN

Netflix Help Center explained why the streaming platform experiences issues when people use VPNs.

"When using a VPN to access Netflix, your region is hidden, so Netflix displays content that is available to all regions globally," said the video platform.

Netflix added that if users don't want to receive the annoying M7111-5059 issue and other error codes, the best thing they can do is to turn off their VPNs.
