On Wednesday, May 4, Samsung launched a new microSD card called the Samsung Pro Endurance. This new microSD card is durable and reliable, and it is made for gadgets that constantly need an SD card, like security cameras.

Samsung Launches Pro Endurance

The Samsung Pro Endurance microSD is the second durability-focused microSD that Samsung has launched recently, following the T7 Shield SSD that was announced in late April, according to XDA-Developers.

Even though Samsung smartphones no longer need an SD card, other devices like security cameras and dashboard cams still require it because they constantly write data to the card.

Having a durable one is very important so that you do not have to replace it every couple of years.

According to Samsung, the new Pro Endurance microSD card can last up to 16 years of constant use. This means you won't have to worry about any lost footage from your dashcam, camcorder, or security camera.

That is around 140,160 hours of recording. For comparison, the previous generation of microSD cards can record up to 43,480 hours, which is around five years of longevity, according to Windows Central.

When it comes to its external factors, it is also durable. The microSD card is resistant to X-rays, magnets and extreme temperatures. It is also waterproof and resistant to wear out and drops.

Improved Performance

While the speed is not the sole focus of the card, it does also have some improvements on that front. The new model has faster write speeds, up to 40MB/s, up from 30MB/s in the previous generation.

That means that it has a Class 10 rating and UHS-III and V30 classifications for video speeds, and it can also handle both Full HD or 4K video recording.

Another improvement in this generation is its increased capacity, which is now up to 256GB, reducing the need to offload or to delete data on the card as often.

The Samsung Pro Endurance microSD card costs around $10.99 for the 32GB model, with prices going up to $54.00 for the 256GB version.

Samsung Pro Plus microSD

Aside from the Samsung Pro Endurance microSD card, the tech company also offers the Samsung Pro Plus microSD that is designed for content creators, according to 9to5Toys.

The Pro Plus can even store some console games within the usual thumbnail-sized form factor. While it is not the fastest option on the market, it still has a respectful transfer speed, a 10-year warranty, and a 6-proof protection rating that Samsung is known for.

The Samsung 6-proof protection treatment guards the microSD against water, X-ray, temperature, and magnetic fields. It also drops and is wearout-proof.

The Pro Plus microSD card can survive up to 72-hours in a 1-meter depth of seawater. It can also endure temperatures from -25°C to 85°C or -13°F to 185°F.

The microSD card is also X-ray proof. It is protected from damage caused by airport X-ray machines, perfect for traveling. It is also magnet-proof, which means it resists magnetic fields of up to the equivalent of a high-field MRI scanner.

Pro Plus can withstand drops of up to 5 meters or 16.4 feet, and it passes a durability test of 10,000 swipes.

In 2016, Samsung launched the Evo Plus MicroSD card with a 256 GB capacity.
