Touch ID is a biometric security feature added by Apple on iPhone models that let users verify their identity with their fingerprint.

This type of feature saves users time in opening their phones because they no longer need to remember passwords.

If you wish to activate the Touch ID feature on your iPhone, here's how to do it.

Apple Touch ID Feature

The first thing that you need to do is to check if your iPhone supports the Touch ID feature. All models, since the iPhone 5S that has a home button, are equipped with the Touch ID feature.

All iPhones that do not have a home button are equipped with the Face ID instead, according to HowtoGeek.

If you have the Touch ID feature on your phone, just go to Settings and tap the gear icon. Type in your passcode and tap "Add Fingerprint" to register your own fingerprint.

Then, you will see instructions that you need to follow in order to add your fingerprint. Place your finger on the home button and make sure that the entire ring is covered. Remember to make sure that your finger is dry.

Once you see the ridges of a fingerprint on the screen, place the same finger on the sensor repeatedly until the fingerprint illustration is filled up completely.

Next, capture the portion of your fingerprint by adjusting your grip and keeping your finger in place on the sensor.

This is important in case you hold your phone at an unusual angle, and the sensor detects a different area of your fingerprint, according to SeattleCu.

Once it is complete, just tap "Continue," and you will see the Touch ID & Passcode screen again. You can then customize what you want to use to unlock your phone, purchase on the iTunes or App Store, Apple Pay, and Apple Wallet, and fill in your passwords.

You can add another fingerprint to the system if you want. Go to "Add a Fingerprint" and follow the instructions. If you're ready to go, just exit the Settings app.

The next time that you use your iPhone, you will see the Touch ID message. Just place your finger on the home button, and it will unlock your phone in seconds.

Adding Touch ID on iPads

Apple iPhones are not the only ones that are equipped with the Touch ID feature. Apple has also rolled out the feature to its other devices, like iPads, according to Readdle.

The process of activating the Touch ID feature on iPads is similar to that of iPhones. Just open the Settings and tap "Touch ID & Passcode," then enter your passcode.

You can then add your fingerprint by positioning your finger on the sensor. Once it is registered, you can exit the Settings and start using the Touch ID feature.

If you wish to add another fingerprint, just tap on "Add a Fingerprint" under the Settings menu.

You have to train your iPad to recognize your fingerprint. Firmly press the Home button and keep your finger still until you are instructed to lift it.

On the first try, your iPad will scan the massive parts of your finger. During the second try, it will scan the outer areas.
