Video game publisher Sony claims that smartphones could someday surpass the DSLR cameras in terms of image quality. The Japanese tech titan says this during a recent business briefing.

Smartphones Could Make DSLR Camera Obsolete One Day

According to Sony, the smartphone cameras will soon exceed the DSLR Cameras when it comes to photo quality.
According to a report by The Desk, Sony Semiconductor Solutions president Terushi Shimizu said that the modern smartphones could exceed the image quality generated by single-lens reflex cameras within the coming years.
"Around 2019, it was said that the three elements of the battery, display, and camera will evolve in smartphones. While the other two are technically saturated, there are still expectations for the camera to evolve," the company's chief executive added.
The presentation tackled the idea that still images will dominate the camera industry at one point. This could take place to the point that the ILC or the interchangeable lens camera will be beaten when it comes to image quality.
To note, this could potentially take place as early as 2024, according to Shimizu.

Sony Continues to Improve Image Sensor Technology
In another story from Channel News, several tech companies, including Samsung and Sony, have been making huge moves when it comes to camera innovation.
The two tech brands have already put a lot of money into improving the image features of smartphones. Sony, for instance, has briefly discussed some information about the "two-layer transistor pixel technology." This one is responsible for incorporating various improvements to the devices, on top of decreasing the low-light noise.
As the technology progresses, many firms have learned how to craft a high-quality set of cameras, even on handheld gadgets. Following the ever-growing quantum saturation and the use of artificial intelligence, it's safe to say that the image sensors for smartphones will become much bigger and more advanced in the next two years.
Sony boasts its technology when it comes to image sensors. As such, the company says that it owns 42% of this technology for the present smartphones as of writing.
Meanwhile, many people are still using DSLR cameras. The biggest names in the industry include Canon and Nikon. While it's appealing to use a high-end camera for photography, it's not as convenient as a smartphone.
Channel News says that the said camera makers admitted that the DSLR technology seems to be a "legacy format." Additionally, both of them acknowledged that this breakthrough is not the future either.
DSLR Cameras Will Eventually Die Out
With that in mind, we could surmise that DSLRs will be phased out faster than smartphone cameras. However, they will still be eye-catchers for collectors and photographers who want to showcase the technology uniquely.
In the future, we could envision that the smartphone's cameras will rule the photography market. If the innovation continuously improves, this possibility will be next to reality.
