PlayStation is skipping Gamescom 2022, no less than Sony Interactive Entertainment, reportedly confirmed.

One of the largest video gaming events in the world, none other than Gamescom, is back in its true form, albeit with the addition of the digital version, which it first introduced thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

PlayStation Skips Gamescom 2022

However, its comeback to the in-person scene misses one of the biggest gaming platforms, Sony PlayStation.

As per a news story by Games Radar, the renowned Japanese gaming firm confirmed its absence from the Germany-based gaming event in an interview with Games Wirtschaft.

The German news outlet reportedly spoke with a representative from Sony Interactive, confirming that PlayStation slips away from the Gamescom for this year.

Games Radar notes that the absence of PlayStation means that gaming fans are missing noteworthy games during the gaming event.

It should include massive titles like "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" and "God of War Ragnarok." Not to mention the attendees of Gamescom 2022 should be missing PlayStation VR 2.

Apart from the Gamescom 2022 event itself, the latest announcement also means that PlayStation is skipping the Gamescom: Opening Night Live of Geoff Keighley.

Gamescom 2022: Which Gaming Firms Pulled Out?

On top of Sony PlayStation, other gaming behemoths have confirmed their absence at Gamescom 2022.

According to a recent report by Video Games Chronicle, another giant console maker, none other than Nintendo, also confirmed its absence for the much-awaited return of Gamescom.

What's worse, the gaming publisher behind phenomenal titles like "Overwatch," "Call of Duty," "Diablo," and "Warcraft," Activision Blizzard, also skips Gamecom, at least for this year.

On the other hand, Games Radar reports that firms like Bandai Namco, Koch Media, and THQ Nordic are joining the August gaming event.

Two massive consoles in the gaming scene, PlayStation and Nintendo, have confirmed their absence from Gamescom.

But Xbox has yet to follow suit. Instead, the gaming platform of Microsoft is reportedly pushing through with the event to some extent.

What is Gamescom 2022 All About?

Tech Radar reports that Gamecom 2022 now carries a hybrid format, marking its much-awaited return to in-person events.

Its digital streaming version, which started during the COVID-19 pandemic is here to stay. It should enable fans all over the world to enjoy it even if they are miles away from Cologne, Germany.

The return of Gamecom 2022 to in-person format starts on August 24 and ends on August 28.
