Nokia and Proximus partnered to deliver a new 5G network slicing tech to further enhance the mobile connectivity quality in Belgium.

The long-awaited rule change has set off a marketing blitz by cell phone companies, fearful of losing their customers and anxious to procure new ones from rivals.

The smartphone manufacturer and Belgium's leading telco company announced their network-enhancing innovation on Tuesday, June 28.

"The solution is available now for trials and will be commercially available in Q3 for 5G standalone," said Nokia via its official press release

Proximus' latest collaboration with Nokia is a big deal since the telco's main goal is to offer a better mobile network and mobile coverage across the country.

According to Computer Weekly's latest report, Nokia and Proximus demoed their new 5G RAN slicing tech at the Belgian telco's 5G Innovation Lab, which is located in Brussels.

During the live trial, they used real-life applications, allowing them to show how consistent the new tech really is. 

When it comes to efficiency, the new 5G RAN slicing functionality can provide benefits to a wide range of use cases, including enterprise, IoT, and Industry 4.0 applications. 

As of writing, their new mobile network slicing tech is already available for trials. Nokia and Proximus confirmed that they would also commercialize their network slicing tech as early 2022's Q3.  

What Happened During 5G RAN Slicing Tech Trial?

Proximus and Nokia used 50Mhz of spectrum in the 3600Mhz band. They combined their new RAN slicing tech in the base station with radio soft-ware defined networking SDN tech. 

This allowed them to enable the real-time management of slices and network performance. Thanks to Proximus' 5G expertise, the latest trial was a success.
