Twitch is an open platform for all gamers, streamers, and other viewers. However, for the past years, the streaming service has been struggling to mitigate the growing incidents of spam bots, harassment, and bannable offenses.

To improve the safety of the users, the company is expected to introduce the "Shared Ban" feature in the future. This will let streamers share the banned users' list with others on the channel.

How important will this be for the whole gaming community?

How can the upcoming Twitch's "Shared ban" feature impact the gaming community? Find out here.

The online security against bots and scammers is sometimes not enough to safeguard the user from experiencing online abuse and harassment. In Twitch, there are a lot of troublemakers who might stumble into your channel and spam it with annoying bots.

With the continuous raid that is putting the streamers' status at peril, Twitch says it is now working on a feature that will protect the content creators on the platform.

How Important is the 'Shared Ban' Feature?

As PCGamer spotted via Zach Bussey's tweet, the site is conducting a demo for the future feature. The streamers can see the guest if he/she is a "suspicious user" or has a history of harassing other people before he/she enters the channel.

Once it's confirmed that a particular person is a "serial harasser," the mods will act quickly to ban him/her. For others to see the participant's record, there will be a "shared ban" tag that will pop out on the platform.

To intensify Twitch's campaign online, the upcoming feature will allow the streamers to send the list to their co-content creators. This will serve as a warning that the guest is restricted from entering the channel.

Additionally, the streamers can also take advantage of the feature by adding extra details regarding the blocked persons.

They can also note that a specific account is a "ban evader," so the other viewers will be forewarned about the intruder.

As of writing, Dotesports reported that the shared ban feature has no confirmed release date yet because it's still in development. It's possible that at this point, only a few streamers are chosen to participate in its early test.

Will There be a Disadvantage Using 'Shared Ban?'

Although it's a promising feature for those who hate opportunists, there's a side that might backfire on Twitch. As per Esports.net, it may spark a "little controversy" upon its debut.

For example, some might abuse it by banning the user as part of a prank. If this false alarm reaches other streamers, the same user will also be banned from other channels.

In the long run, we see this as a helpful feature on Twitch, but the management should first consider how to properly filter the abusive users and streamers to make the platform a more user-friendly and carefree space for everyone.
