New York City Emergency Management has released a video focused on nuclear preparedness for all New Yorkers.

According to a report by Bloomberg on Tuesday, July 12, the city's Emergency Management has uploaded the video on its official YouTube channel for New Yorkers.

No one could tell when the "Big One" would come into the city. As early as now, it's better to be equipped and knowledgeable in the proper procedures every person should do when this occurs.

Based on the clip, the residents should take note of the following steps.

  • Get inside fast. Refrain from staying inside your vehicle.
  • Stay inside and quickly close all the entry and exit points in your house including the doors and the windows. Most importantly, you should go to the basement (if you have any). The next thing that you need to do is to pack all your clothes in case you are about to go outside.
  • Stay tuned and listen to the updated announcement from the city officials.

"New York City Emergency Management has a multitude of free resources for New Yorkers to prepare for emergencies, including no-notice events. As the threat landscape continues to evolve, it is important that New Yorkers know we are preparing for any imminent threats and are providing them with the resources they need to stay safe and informed,"New York City Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol said in a press release.

Apparently, the city department did not further elaborate on the other information regarding the potential nuclear attack. The authorities did not state the hints before the "big one" happened nor how it would start in the city.

New York City dropped the set of important reminders for the people even though the likelihood of a nuclear disaster taking place in the city is "very low."

Still, it's a crucial series of procedures that every New Yorker should follow since this scenario is highly unpredictable. No one knows the exact time of the potential strike. That's why preparation is always a must.

The Impact of Nuclear Attacks

As per the Louisiana State University researchers, the global impact of the nuclear attacks has already reached the oceans around the world. After running computer simulations, the scientists said it would cause irregular global temperature changes.

Additionally, nuclear attacks can "wipe out" a lot of sea creatures in all bodies of water. The experts used the term "nuclear little ice age" to describe this possible phenomenon.

It should be noted that some countries are facing problems during a nuclear war. Back in April, Sergei Lavrov, Russia's Foreign Minister, said that the event was already at "serious" risk.

With the continuous tension between Russia and Ukraine, the nuclear war might be the center of the conflict. If that happens, this could further aggravate the economic conditions of some nations which depend on the involved countries.
