The Air Force's Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Makes Aerospace History As The First Uav To Fly Unrefueled 7,500 Miles Across The Pacific Ocean From Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., To Australia, April 22, 2001.

The new weapons hub is expected to be located in Livingston, which is around 15 miles away from Edinburgh.

Once this new anti-drone center is completed, experts said that it could help meet the rising demand for laser weapons efficient against UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) threats.

Now, here's what Scotland plans to do with its upcoming new weapons hub.

Scotland's New Anti-Drone Hub

According to Bloomberg's latest report, the new weapons hub in Scotland will focus on fielding, testing, and maintaining the country's advanced HELs (high-energy lasers).

Raytheon President of Electronic Warfare Systems, Annabel Flores, explained that HELs and other cost-effective defense laser techs are now becoming more in demand.

This is because various countries want to efficiently defend themselves from drones, rockets, as well as mortars used by enemies.

The Independent UK reported that the major threats caused by drones and other similar defense weapons were seen in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Defense researchers explained that UAVs, such as drones, can be used for surveillance and intelligence. Aside from these, they can also act as missile and bomb carriers.

Drones also have the capabilities to direct or correct artillery fire. Now, if enemies use these drones, their attacks will be more efficient.

This is why a country needs to have enough HELs that can take down these UAV threats.

Raytheon's Anti-Drone Weapons

Thanks to its expertise, Raytheon UK was able to develop anti-drone weapons that are quite effective. These defense techs can emit invisible laser beams.

Their sizes are more than enough to fit into military vehicles, allowing troops to carry them from one place to another easily.

This means that if Raytheon's HEL takes down a drone, operators can easily drive off their original position so that their presence will not be compromised.

Once the new anti-drone hub is completed in Scotland, these HELs are expected to increase in numbers. If you want to learn more about the upcoming weapons center, you can visit this link
