Stray, a PlayStation exclusive, has just debuted to good acclaim, yet it appears that house cats, rather than gamers, are its main admirers.

PlayStation's Stray

Stray is one of the most anticipated gameplay in the July PS Plus lineup. This new PlayStation game puts you in the paws of a 'stray' cat to explore a deadly cyberpunk metropolis. There are fascinating robots to engage with, a slew of environmental narration to absorb, and plenty of carpets to scratch as you dance around like a lovely tabby.

Although the cat is the game's hero, it is not the only protagonist. B12 (which is a reference to the studio's name, BlueTwelve), a robot, joins the cat on its voyage. B12 can communicate with the other robots in the city and understand what they are saying.

This Stray game allows you to explore your environment, defend against unexpected threats, and unravel the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited only by unassuming machines and frightening monsters. Be as quick, foolish, and irritating as possible with the unusual residents of this exotic land and more.

However, as dynamic, immersive, and entertaining as it seems, it appears it's not only you who will benefit the most from it. If you own a cat, you'll be relieved to know that the feline world can't take its gaze away from the screen once the game begins.

PlayStation Stray's biggest fans

According to Techradar, Stray has captured the attention of many of the players' feline pals, as seen by videos and photos shared on social media of cats interested in the game.

Users have shared photographs of their cats seeming entranced by the game on the r/playstation subreddit. Many gamers' pets are enthralled as Stray's unidentified feline protagonist waltzes around the screen.

Like this tabby cat, who is transfixed by another tabby cat's motions on the TV.

But it's not just cats. Dogs appear to enjoy the game as well:

People like uploading photos of their cats staring at Stray, and it has become kind of a craze in the last 24 hours to demonstrate how enthralled your furry friends really are.

But it's not shocking that they're obsessed. Techradar detailed that the protagonist of Stray was rigorously built and animated to replicate real-life cats' actions accurately. Everything about them appears familiar, from how their shoulders move as they walk to how they bound across platforms to how they indifferently throw stuff off the edge of furniture.

In a PlayStation blog, Stray's main cat animator spent numerous hours looking for video reference material in order to recreate cat movement precisely.

"We worked countless hours together simply on the fundamental movements of the main character, iterating and fine-tuning every single hop and transition with the studio's cat programmer," the post read.

Overall, studying cats while making a game about them appears to have been worthwhile. Stray has succeeded in convincing actual cats that one of their own has been pulled into the television screen and has been a trend on social media too.
