On the heels of the breakout debut of Shredder's Revenge last month, Konami has officially announced the release date for the series' 13-retro-game bundle, aptly titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection. It will launch for nearly every conceivable system, including PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Steam, and Switch, come August 30, featuring a variety of quality of life improvements, button remapping, and even online cooperative play capabilities.

Konami announced the TMNT: Cowabunga Collection release date on Twitter in the midst of its San Diego Comic-Con setup, wherein a 5-second video showcases rows upon rows of PCs readied for some TMNT action. Lucky attendants were allowed to play some snippets of the forthcoming collection amid the event's esports gaming lounge, which was hopefully supplied with ample pizza.

The TMNT: Cowabunga Collection game list includes the likes of NES classics from the golden age of TMNT, such as the original TMNT, which remains ranked as among the most difficult NES games in existence, as well as TMNT II: The Arcade GameTMNT III: The Manhattan Project, and Tournament Fighters. A grand total of three iterations of Tournament Fighters is making its way into the bundle, including both the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo versions, with PCGamer's Rich Stanton saying "they do have major differences."

From arcade classics to Game Boy debuts, the Cowabunga Collection and its list of extended retro classics is sure to excite the masses, especially given implementations of both local and online co-op. The games that will include these co-op features amid the Collection include TMNTTMNT: Turtles in TimeTMNT: The Hyperstone Heist, and Tournament Fighters for the Super Nintendo.

Development is being headed by the likes of Digital Eclipse, the studio behind several retro collections, such as Blizzard Arcade CollectionSNK 40th Anniversary Collection, and the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. Thus, you know it's in good hands. The team is imbuing some welcome new feature sets to some of the TMNT entries, such as rewind capabilities, anytime saving, in-game guides, and full button remapping. Various accompanying content will also be added, like so-called "historic TMNT media content," development art, and more.
