A new "Sonic the Hedgehog" keyboard has been released, and while the game is about obtaining the fastest speeds possible, it seems like the keyboard actually slows users down.

Higround Releases a 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Themed Keyboard

According to the story by Gizmodo, the "Sonic the Hedgehog" video games are usually about being able to go at the highest speeds possible. A company called Higround has just released a Sonic-themed keyboard that can be hard to use for people that haven't memorized where the keys are placed.

The keyboard is reportedly part of its new "capsule collection," and the company partnered with Sega in order to bring the device to life. They reportedly wanted to help pay tribute to one of the most recognizable characters and one of its "most beloved consoles."

More Merch Surrounding the Classic 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Franchise

The collection also includes t-shirts, pants, keycap sets, bags, and even a mouse pad. The highlight, however, is the heavy-themed keyboards. The most flamboyant feature of the keyboard is its obvious Sonic-decorated keys.

The keyboard design recreates the classic Green Hill Zone that comes directly from the "Sonic the Hedgehog" game. Another "slightly more subtle" alternative mirrors the classic key art coming from "Sonic Adventure 2."

Latest Keyboard Reportedly Prioritizes Artwork Over Functionality

The last keyboard reportedly pays homage to the Dreamcast and comes with the console's logo on the space bar as well as its arrow keys matching the colors and labels directly from the action buttons of the controller. Every keyboard looks like it is completely label-free and prioritizes the artwork.

In reality, however, the alphanumeric labels can still be found on the side of every key for aesthetic reasons. The keyboard reportedly prioritizes form over function with its keys on the side for users to still be able to check every once in a while.

When Will the Higround Sega Collection 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Keyboard Drop?

Although the labels are on the side, they might still be hard to see when users are using the keyboard to type. Since the labels are found on the side, this could also take some getting used to before users fully adjust to the new keys.

The Higround Sega collection will officially launch at noon PST on August 5, and this is when buyers will be able to get their keyboards from the company's official website. Although prices have not yet officially been revealed, the article by Gizmodo provides an estimate of the keyboard based on the prices of its other models.

When checking the Higround collection of other keyboards, most of them come at a price range of $135 all the way to $145. This, however, is not a guarantee that the "Sonic the Hedgehog" keyboard will also come at the same price range, especially if it will be a limited edition version.
