The August Sturgeon full moon will be the last Supermoon of 2022, and it presents a significant astronomical event for the world to witness in the coming days. However, it coincides with the awaited light show of the planet, particularly with the Perseids meteor shower that will bring the world a light show in the night sky.

While the August Supermoon would not be affected by the meteor shower as much, the Perseids will take a toll because of the Sturgeon full moon's presence.

Space.com reports that the next full moon is on Thursday, August 11, and it will be the so-called Sturgeon moon that comes during August when the sturgeon fishes are in season. It also is the last Supermoon of 2022, and it is one sight to see before catching one again in 2023, which will be a long wait for the next close look at the natural satellite.

It would be one sight to see on Thursday night, and it will be visible across the planet when it is nighttime in their areas or regions.

For the US, its peak would be on Thursday, August 11, and will be visible by 9:36 PM EDT (5:36 PM PST) and will be visible until Friday night.

Not to worry as the Supermoon will shine bright for the world, and will be visible for several days as it is also the full moon.

Perseids to Appear Weaker due to Supermoon

It also joins another cosmic event known as the Perseids Meteor Shower which will take place from August 12 to 13, the coming Friday and Saturday of this week. It will have a weaker light show compared to the past years due to the Sturgeon Supermoon appearance and instead of the usual 50 to 60 meteors per hour, it will only display 10 to 20 at its best

Still, it is one sight to see, and despite its weakened state due to the Sturgeon moon's glare, the world will see both cosmic events in one weekend.

The Moon and its Significance

Yearly, there are multiple cosmic events that people expect to arrive, and these are Supermoons, meteor showers, star sightings, planet alignments, and other appearances in the sky. Still, the Moon is one significant space object for the world that researchers are still trying to understand, along with other objects out in the great beyond.

NASA and other partners are still putting significant efforts and funding into the upcoming Artemis I mission that will bring the first woman astronaut to step foot on the Moon. It will also focus on studying the lunar satellite that assigns to the Earth, with many ventures in place for the upcoming mission to study the space rock older than history.

The Sturgeon moon is only one of the Moon's phases during August, and it has many known names in other seasons and months.

August's Sturgeon full moon is coming together soon, forming with its full phase for the world to experience and see in the night sky. It is coming with the Perseids but sadly, it will have reduced showers due to the overwhelming Supermoon that would be the last appearance it would have for the year.
